For mild build-up, some over the counter ear wax removal agents (found in your local drugstore) could be used. Patients should not try these drops if they have ever experienced holes in the eardrum, pain, or drainage from the ear. The actual ear cleaning using The Earigator generally takes only a few minutes. For first time patients to the clinic or those new to The Earigator, Yost Hearing recommends allowing at least 15-30 minutes for the total appointment.
Is “ear candling” safe?
Ear candling is not safe at all. Yost Hearing discourages anyone from trying this method. Research has determined that ear candling does not work. It can lead to injuries such as burns, eardrum perforation, and ear canal obstructions.
