There are several steps involved in a hearing aid consultation. If you suspect you might need a hearing aid, the first step is a hearing test. During this appointment, a case history will be taken to determine how much your hearing difficulty impacts your day-to-day life, as well as the lives of your family. You may also be asked some basic questions about your general health history.
Hearing test results
The results of your hearing test will give our hearing care professionals insight into which sounds you may be hearing well and which you may be missing. These results also allow your team at Yost Hearing to make the best treatment recommendations, which often include hearing aids.
Hearing aid recommendation
If your hearing test reveals a permanent hearing loss, hearing aids may be recommended. Our team will explain which sounds you have difficulty hearing and how hearing aids can help. It’s usually at this appointment that you’ll get to see and touch different styles of hearing aids, and in some cases, you may even be able to listen to one.
Our hearing professional will recommend the best hearing aid style, features, and level of sophistication based on your degree of hearing loss, lifestyle, and budget. Certain hobbies and occupations may benefit from specific hearing aid styles or features, so we may ask you to fill out a questionnaire to assist during the consultation process. The final decision on which hearing aids to purchase is yours, but we will help you chose the best option for your particular needs.
Once you’ve made a decision, impressions could be taken of your ears if you’ve selected custom hearing aids or behind-the-ear hearing aids that require earmolds. Hearing aids may be in-stock or ordered from a manufacturer and then programmed by your Yost Hearing team to meet your specific hearing needs. Keep in mind there’s an adjustment period when wearing new hearing aids, so additional changes to your settings may be required to ensure you’re getting the best listening experience possible.
