Protecting Your Hearing Investment!
There is no denying that hearing aids are a significant investment. Hearing aids are a monetary investment in your health and wellness. Hearing aids are an investment in your relationships and for some in your career. Hearing aids are a small computer like device that you depend on daily. Hearing aids can keep you connected to your world. Once you take the important step to make this multifaceted investment (purchase the hearing aid), it is time to protect it!
Step 1: The DAILY Cleaning
We brush our teeth daily and clean our glasses daily, so why not our hearing aids? A dirty hearing aid is like dirty glasses. When the lenses are smeared with dirt and grime, it is hard to see. The glasses are not working like they are supposed to. The once clear view is obstructed by the smudges. The same is true for your hearing aids. A hearing aid covered in wax or dust is not working like it should. A good hearing aid cleaning can drastically improve sound quality. Daily cleaning simply means wiping your hearing aid with a cloth or a hearing aid cleaning wipe. Use the little brush to brush debris from the microphone. Make sure you are taking the time to do it!
Step 2: Changing Wax Filters
Some hearing aids have wax filters and others do not. Wax filters are those tiny white pieces on the receiver end of a hearing aid. Be sure to ask for a demonstration on how to change the wax filters. It is recommended to change wax filters on a monthly basis. Often times, replacing the filter will fix a dead hearing aid!
Step 3: Visiting Yost Hearing
We love our patients and we like to see you! A hearing aid clean & check is highly recommended every 6 months during your Anniversary and Semi-Annual appointments. This allows for a deep cleaning of your hearing aids, tubing changes, dome replacements and filter replacements. Last but not least, we listen to your hearing aids to be sure that they are working as optimally as they should. If we discover a problem early, we may be able to prevent a costly repair. Of course, if there is an issue prior to your Anniversary or Semi-Annual appointments call us immediately!
Step 4: Hearing Screening
Yost Hearing recommends an annual hearing screening. Just as your prescription with glasses can change from year to year, so can your hearing! No one would want to wear glasses that are the wrong prescription, so why would you want to wear hearing aids that are the wrong prescription? By screening your hearing annually, we can uncover any need to make changes to the programming of your aids. Remember hearing aids are programmable, so as your needs change so can the hearing aid programming.
